Straight answers to the questions people ask before they call.

Each one is titled with the question the way a customer types it, opens with the answer in one paragraph, and then shows the working. Prices are mine and they are the same ones on the pricing page. Facts carry a source and a date. Where the honest answer is that I do not know, the page says so.

How much does a website cost in Melbourne?

Melbourne quotes for a small-business site mostly sit between A$3,000 and A$10,000. I quote each build after looking at the site, because the number of pages, the platform, hosting, content and integrations change the work a lot. Every build includes SEO set up, GA4 and Google Ads tracking, and redirects so your rankings carry over. The price is fixed before work starts, plus GST.

Will a website redesign lose my Google rankings?

A redesign loses rankings when a URL Google knew about stops answering. The change of look is not the cause. The redirect map decides it. The map is built in week one and is usually built from the wrong source. Get the map right, take a baseline first, and the design can change as much as you like.

Should I hire an agency or a solo consultant?

Hire an agency when the job needs more hands than one person has, or when you want a weekly status call and an account manager. Hire a solo consultant when you want the person who finds the problem, sizes it and builds the fix to be the same person. I am the second kind.

What can health practitioners not say on their website?

If you are a registered health practitioner, section 133 of the National Law governs your advertising. Your website is advertising. No testimonials. No claims that create an unreasonable expectation of benefit. No guarantees like pain-free. No specialist title you have not been endorsed for. This is research from published sources and it is not legal advice. Confirm it with your indemnity insurer.

What should I ask a web developer before I sign?

Seven questions, and the answers you should expect. Who owns the domain, hosting and code. How the redirect map will be built. Whether a baseline is taken before launch. What happens to email during the DNS change. Whether you can edit the site without breaking it. What is not included. Who picks it up if the developer disappears. Ask all seven in writing before a deposit.

Does llms.txt actually do anything?

Not much, today. Google's John Mueller has said no Google Search system reads or acts on llms.txt. No major AI provider has committed to reading it in production. It takes about ten minutes to write, so put one up. Do not pay anyone for it. Do not let anyone sell it to you as a ranking lever.

What is the difference between SEO and AEO?

SEO is the work of being ranked by a search engine so a person clicks through to your page. AEO, answer engine optimisation, is the work of being the source an answer engine cites when it writes the answer itself. On a business website the two are mostly the same work. The differences are in what gets retrieved and where the citations go.

Does schema markup help with AI Overviews?

Not in the way it is sold. Google's own documentation says there is no special schema.org structured data you need to add for AI Overviews or AI Mode. The one large comparison I trust found no lift. Schema is still worth doing, for the same reasons it always was. It is hygiene. I ship it on every build. I do not bill it as the thing that gets you cited.

Where do I find AI impressions in Google Search Console?

Open Search Console, go to Performance, then Search results, and open the generative-AI performance report. It shows impressions your pages earned inside Google's AI features, AI Overviews and AI Mode. It counts impressions only. There are no clicks, no queries, and nothing from ChatGPT, Perplexity or Claude. Read it over 90 days against the prior 90.

How do I check whether my SEO agency is doing anything?

Open your own Search Console. Compare the last 90 days with the 90 before. Ask for the list of changes shipped, with dates, and the list of pages added. Check that titles and descriptions are unique. Open the generative-AI report. Then hold the monthly report up against that list. A report is not a change.
